My Own Voice

Project Objective

The aim of this project was to create a functional prototype of the MyOwnVoice app that included all of the major user flows and interactions. This prototype could be used to validate viability of the app and test our core assumptions around the user experience

Design Solution

This project is currently in progress and has been very interesting. We were approached by a group of friends that were in the "pre-startup" phase. They had identified an app they would like to build, to help people to work through the difficult conversations around dying and personal healthcare choices. This is not an easy conversation to have and developing an app that would help navigate this topic is quite the challenge.

This is a very delicate subject matter and also posed an interesting ux design challenge in developing an app that would be simple to use, accessible to an older audience that may not be technologically savvy and provide enough guidance that they can work through these very personal questions comfortably and conversationally

We started this project designing a rough sketch based prototype in Marvel app which allow us to validate the screen flows and start blocking out high level layouts and content blocks. Once those were approved we fleshed out higher fidelity wire frames/unstyled screen designs that would allow us to refine the layout and start building a functional app prototype using the Cordova framework. This gave us the foundation of the app which would allow us to start testing the app with the target audience to identify gaps and validate the overall business model.

The visual design for this app has been kept purposefully simple, as the overall branding/ voice and tone have not yet been developed and there is a potential for this to be white-labeled for third parties. Once the initial test phase and the branding are complete we will revise any flows or interaction patterns that need to be addressed and will add the visual design at that point.
